Dragons Den Careers Day

Dragons Den Careers Day

On  Thursday 19th May, Paul James, Innovation Director for Savient Limited certainly felt like a local celebrity as he volunteered to support the students at Bishop Perowne C of E College and be on the panel for their Dragons Den careers event.

The 177 students in year 9 were required beforehand to work in small groups, plan their pitch and decide what the hypothetical investment might be.  Working in their groups they had to discuss a business plan and what role each of them would take and decide how they would take the product to market.

It was an interesting afternoon as the students worked together to deliver their pitch to the local Worcestershire business people who formed the Dragons Den panel.  The product they pitched was based on the students interests and hobbies so there was a real variety of pitches, styles and products discussed but provided an inclusive and interactive opportunity for all the students to be involved.

Once the Dragons Den panel had heard all the pitches they had to deliberate and had the difficult decision to decide which teams were the overall winners.  Congratulations to Star Soap for their pitch on glow in the dark bedtime soap - means no need for a nightlight as your children continue to glow in the dark until they fall asleep.  The other winning team were Pick Drone who wanted to generate an autonomous litter picking drone for your community.

Paul James said “it was certainly an insightful afternoon with the students and congratulations to them all for the hard work preparing and delivering the pitches.  There were some great product ideas and certainly some future business entrepreneurs in the making”

Savient Limited provided the winning teams with a Savient goody bag and a National book token.  We continue to partner with Worcestershire local enterprise partnership and certainly enjoy supporting our local schools and colleges.
