National Apprenticeship Week 2025 - Skills for Life

Interview with Andrew Alhadeff, Managing Director, Savient Limited

Why does Savient support apprenticeships?

At Savient Limited, we believe in investing in skills and talent. Apprenticeships provide a fantastic opportunity for individuals to gain real-world experience while developing the skills that businesses like ours need while learning on the job. They’re a win-win—our apprentices gain valuable qualifications and career prospects in software engineering, while as an employer we are building a skilled and motivated workforce.

What impact have apprenticeships had at Savient?

We’ve seen firsthand the positive impact apprentices bring to our business. One great example is one of our T Level students Ben Sweetman, who progressed to a Level 4 Software Engineering apprenticeship with QA Ltd, making a real contribution to our business.  Ben has been a valuable member of our product team working on Savitrace and using the skills he has learnt from his apprenticeship and applying them straight into the working environment.  Apprenticeships bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic, helping us grow while giving back to the workforce of the future.

How do apprenticeships benefit businesses beyond just filling job roles?

Apprenticeships are about long-term talent development. They help businesses build a pipeline of skilled professionals, reduce skills gaps, and increase employee retention. Plus, they foster a culture of learning and innovation, which is essential for staying competitive in today’s market.  At Savient Limited we are proud of our early careers opportunities we have to offer not just apprenticeships but our Savient academy, graduate opportunities and placement students from university.

What would you say to someone considering an apprenticeship?

Go for it! Apprenticeships offer hands-on experience, industry-recognised qualifications, and a direct pathway into a successful career. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a career change, an apprenticeship can open doors and give you the skills employers value.

What role do apprenticeships play in the wider economy?

Apprenticeships are crucial for economic growth. They equip people with the skills industries need, reduce unemployment, and help businesses innovate. By investing in apprenticeships, we’re not just supporting individuals—we’re strengthening entire sectors and driving economic progress.

How can businesses get involved in supporting apprenticeships?

There are many ways to get involved, from offering placements to mentoring apprentices or partnering with local training providers. At Savient, we actively engage with initiatives like T Levels and apprenticeships, ensuring we provide real opportunities for learners. I would encourage all businesses to explore how they can play a role in developing the next generation of skilled professionals.

During 2025 we will continue with our ambitious outreach projects with schools, colleges, and universities as they are a great way to engage with young people and have the potential to encourage people to not only consider an apprenticeship and a career in STEM but with Savient Limited.
