Savient Limited at ShireJam2023
Over the weekend, Sarah James and Sophie Wood-James had a fantastic time supporting the ShireJam 2023 event meeting young people of all ages involved in Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across Hereford & Worcester, Gloucestershire and Shropshire hosted and supported by the beautifully located Three Counties showground in Malvern. It was a brilliant event to be part of packed with adventure, friendships, and new experiences.
Sarah and Sophie along with the Savient Bugs were proud to support the event in the ‘Create More’ zone encouraging the young people, young leaders and adult volunteers alike to develop their STEM problem solving skills to decode our Pigpen Cypher and then using our AI model to check their code-breaking skills which was developed and trained by our Savient Academy junior developers and T-level placement student over the last few months. A great hands-on example of a project they could themselves work on if they decide to follow a career path into STEM and software engineering.
Building on our Savient rocket logo and broadening the minds of the young people they spoke to, our team also encouraged curiosity as another core skill for anyone studying STEM subjects and working in the tech industry. They guided the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to explore facts about the planets and solar system, giving them the opportunity to be creative and artistic with their space themed drawings in our Savient solar system. We also gave them a hands on experience to use a website our team developed during a recent Hackathon event demonstrating the leap forward in technology between the James Webb Vs Hubble Telescope view and data collection. Hopefully we have some future Maggie Aderin-Pocock’s or Tim Peake’s in the making here!
It was an incredible event to be part of and both Sarah and Sophie have marvelled at the energy and enthusiasm shown by all the young people there and how bright our future in STEM and the tech world will be if they follow their curiosity and thirst for knowledge to continue studying STEM and are ready for their entry into the workplace.
It was a pleasure to support the event alongside other tech companies in the ‘Create Move’ zone and community organisations including CACI Information Intelligence and the Code Club from the Raspberry Pi Foundation that we hope to collaborate with on future outreach events.
Thanks to the incredible Shire Jam 2023 event team and all volunteers for making this event happen and for inviting Savient to be part of this inspiring weekend.
