STEM Workshop at Ribston Hall High School

Here at Savient Limited⭕ we really are passionate about our outreach events and today is a perfect example of how we have support young people in IT and cyber careers as well as a full day of STEM fun with the students at Ribston Hall High School.

At the CyNam Empower Cyber 2023 Sarah James had a conversation with Louisa Phoenix about how the Savient Limited team could potentially help with a STEM workshops at the school.

At Savient Limited we have partnered with Cirencester College for a second year to support students looking to complete their industry placement year. Ben was a T-Level student from Cirencester College in 2023 who completed his industry placement year with us and went on to continue his career as our first software engineer apprentice.  Developing this STEM Workshop was a perfect opportunity to build skills for our team as part of the industry placement days and apprenticeship applied tasks set by Simon White and the QA Higher Education team.

With various brainstorming, project planning and puzzle concepts researched we are proud to have a new “STEM Badge” workshop.  The workshop uses themed puzzles, all using words associated with STEM like observation, design, cipher, puzzle, unique and collaborate. The team were able to use various skills acquired both in college and from Savient training workshops to develop in JavaScript, React and Python using Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence to keep track of progress, developing key software skills and learning tools for software development roles.

For one of Ben’s applied apprenticeship tasks he had to create and design a web application.  This resulted in a real time website allowing us to keep track of the students' progress on the STEM badges, creating friendly competition as we can all see which teams are topping the leaderboard and uncovering the STEM champions.  A special mention to Samantha Rawlings whose artistic spark created our very own Savient STEM agents!

With all the hard work from Brook, Daniel, George, Franics, Ben and Samantha and with the support of the Savient team with special thanks to Sarah James, Paul James, James Stillwell, and Sophie Wood-James we are proud to be able to run our Savient Limited STEM Badge workshop with the students today.

Given all the smiles, interaction, and inquisitive nature we have a great selection of future STEM and IT professionals eager to explore the world of STEM careers.  It doesn’t stop there as the potential opportunities with our Savient STEM Badge workshop are endless and we are looking forward to welcoming two new students Archie and Ben from Cirencester College in September. We will continue to work with Michelle Foley and Joanna Smith from the college to create a positive and engaging industry placement opportunity for the students and we can’t wait to see what future developments will be made on the Savient STEM Badge workshop.
